I’m excited to share a yummy recipe with you today. I’m going to tell you how to make homemade rum vanilla. It is a DIY homemaker’s dream. It only has two ingredients, so it is easy to make. You can easily impress everyone with your homemaking skills. Hint: Make a few bottles at once, so it will last a long time!

First, let me tell you how I came across this simple recipe. Some of you know that I work part-time as a nurse in an ob/gyn office.

One of my dearest friends is a nurse that I used to work with named Kara (love you, girl!) and she gave me this homemade vanilla many Christmases ago. It is truly some heavenly stuff. I asked her if she minded if I shared how to make this rum vanilla on my blog and she said that I could. Lucky you!

How much rum and how many vanilla beans you need depends on how much rum vanilla you are wanting to make. Figure out how many ounces your bottles are, then look at how many ounces are in the Bacardi rum bottle to figure out how many bottles of rum vanilla you can make.

You only need one Madagascar vanilla bean for each bottle of vanilla you make. Warning: Depending where you get your Madagascar vanilla beans, they can be reasonably priced or very expensive. The Madagascar vanilla bean in the bottle below has TWO beans…that’s it. Guess how much I paid for it?

Eighteen bucks! Yikes! I paid that ridiculous price because I got it very close to home at one of the pricier grocery stores because I knew that they would have it. I didn’t have time to wait for it to get shipped because I wanted to get started on this blog post. I recommend buying the Madagascar vanilla beans online and saving yourself some money!

Once you have the stuff you need, cut off the ends of the Madagascar vanilla bean, so it looks like this:

Fold the vanilla bean in half and insert the two ends that you cut first into the bottle. Next, use a small funnel and fill the bottles the rest of the way with the Bacardi rum.
