Mr. Verne J. Wright, son of the late Oscar Lee and Geneva Roark Wright was born at Mt. Victory, KY on August 20, 1927 and he departed this life November 20, 2024 having attained the age of 97 years.Survivors include two children, Mark Wright and Diana Wright both of Mt. Victory, KY, a special friend Addison Mounce ; three brothers, Donald Lee, L.V. and Ronnie Wright; and four sisters, Hazel Mae Wright Flannigan, Sue Curtis, Delatha Wright and Carolyn Turner.Verne was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and he also attended the Mt. Victory Christian Church. Verne served his country through service in the United States Navy . He served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Verne enjoyed history, fishing and sitting on his porch watching the world go by.He was a retired teacher having served more than 30 years of service. He taught at the Saline School, the Garner School, the Mt. Victory School, The White Lily School and ended his tenure with the Shopville School System. He held several educational degrees having attended Pepperdine College, Campbellsville College, Eastern Ky University, and the University of West Virginia, Berkley. He also had the opportunity of teaching abroad in London, England.Verne was a kind soul who loved spending time with family and friends, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him and he leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, November 25th, 2024 at the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Couch and Minister Vince Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodwater Cemetery. Virginia Gladys Carpenter Hawkins, 100, passed away at The Neighborhood of Somerset, Kentucky on Thursday, November 21, 2024.She was born on September 20, 1924 in Glade Park, Colorado to John Henry and Anna Belle (Getty) Carpenter and was the third to the last child of a large family. Virginia was the wife of James E Hawkins Jr. ,who she married on April 28, 1944. they would spend the next 57 years together. She and her husband owned and operated B and H Shoe Store which became a popular retail store in Somerset, Kentucky , eventually opening multiple locations and was operated by three generations of the family for seventy- two years. Virginia and her husband were members and the First Baptist Church and First Christian Church. She was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord and wanted to share His love with others, She did this by founding a soup kitchen to help others who were in need of a good meal and by sending cards to people that were filled with encouragement. Virginia had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and have fun with friends and family. She was also known for her love of the color purple, be it clothes or flowers.She is survived by her three daughters; Judy Holtzclaw, Marsha (Danny) Barnett, Amy (David) Barnett, her grandchildren Leslie Scott, Joe Ford, Eddie Ford, Lynn Morris, Jeff Barnett, Jon Barnett, Dave Barnett, Tommy Barnett, Jimbo Hawkins and Samantha Taylor. Virginia also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jim Hawkins as well as her son, Jimmy Hawkins and her 10 siblings.Visitation will be Monday, November 25, 2024 at The First Baptist Church of Somerset, Kentucky from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM.A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM with Bro. David Pendley and Rev. Augusta, KY - Mack Lee Wallace, 94, passed away from complications of Congestive Heart Failure on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Highlandspring in Ft. Thomas, KY. Mack was the eldest of 6 children born on March 17, 1930 in Pulaski County, KY to the late Ernest Lee Wallace and Dorothy Jane (Canada) Wallace. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Wilma June (Wagel) Wallace, who passed away on September 14, 2024. Mack & Wilma were married in Georgetown, OH on March 30, 1956.Mack is survived by his eldest daughter, Amy (Jeffrey) Jones of Foster; two granddaughters, Kelly (Austin) Miller of Bedford, IN and Kara (Sullivan) Simpson of Lexington, KY; two great grandsons, Walker Miller and Brooks Simpson; his son-in-law, Mark Thornberry of Newport, KY; and sister, Mary Dean Gayhart of Versailles, KY.Along with his parents, Mack was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Melinda Wallace Thornberry, who passed on October 15, 2021.Mack was also preceded in death by his sister: Faye Bill (Robert) Bristol; sister: Ina Nell (Charles) Sexton; brother: Leonard Barnes "LB" (Linda) Wallace; brother: Gary Roger "Chuck" Wallace; and brother-in-law: James Gayhart.Mack was a 1947 graduate of Shopville High School in Pulaski County, KY. Patricia "Patsy" Cross Barlow of Somerset, Kentucky passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation.Patricia was born on April 10, 1933 in the Elihu Community of Pulaski County, Kentucky to John and Luretha (Wynn) Cross.She was a member of the Somerset High School Graduating class of 1951 and went on to attend the University of Kentucky from which she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Commerce in 1955. She was married to Claude "Bugs" Barlow in Lexington, Kentucky on October 1, 1955 and they would spend the next 57 years together.Patty was employed by Dean Carpenter at The University of Kentucky and was also a military wife, who, while her husband was away, was also a homemaker and raised their three children. She and the family lived several places including Germany and Fort Knox, Kentucky before returning to Somerset to retire. She maintained lasting, life - long friendships and managed to stay in touch with her friends no matter where she happened to be in the world.Patricia was a member of The First Baptist Church of Somerset and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, coloring and traveling. She always put herself last, and, was funny, and had a talent for making others laugh. Charles Louie Dick, 82, of Science Hill, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2024 at his home.He was born on May 11, 1942 to the late Arl & Ruth (Elliott) Dick in Port Clinton, Ohio. He grew up working in his father's grocery store known at that time as Arl Dick Grocery. He attended Somerset High school and then later graduated from Lindsay Wilson College and Eastern Kentucky State College at the top of his class. He was a member of Pi Omega Pi fraternity. He taught school at Eubank High School from 1964 until 1966 when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served as the company clerk of company B19-5, and these were some of the most memorable years of his life. He loved books, people, and education as well as his church and his family. He was a member of The Trinity Church of Science Hill, formally Science Hill United Methodist.He is survived by his wife, Jerry Rae (Broyles) Dick; his son, Charles Ray Dick; and a granddaughter, Anna Katherine Dick.He was preceded in death by his parents.A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Irvin Galloway (Bob) passed away in Phoenix, AZ on November 7, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 27, 1939, in Chicago, Ill to parents Everett Galloway Sr. and Hallie Louise Frank. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Sister-in-law Dorothy Galloway. Bob, as he was known to many friends, was a computer analyst and worked for numerous companies over his lifetime. Among them, Regensteiner Publishing Enterprise in Chicago, Ill and Lexus Nexus in Dayton, OH and Ft Lauderdale, Fl. He retired to Somerset, KY in 2005. Bob was an avid theater buff, had attended over 900 plays and musicals in his lifetime, and cherished the playbills to each one. He volunteered at Memorial Hall for Kenley Players and the Victoria Theater in Dayton, Ohio. He was a serious collector of stamps, coins, pottery, and books and loved to go antiquing any chance he got. He also enjoyed the flea market and horse races. He loved to read and was seldom seen without a book in his hand. Bob never married and enjoyed spending time with his many friends and loving family. To know Bob/Irvin was to enjoy his quirky personality and dry humor. He could make anyone laugh and question his or her knowledge, as he was an amazing trivia buff. She was a Christian lady, member of Science Hill Methodist Church, worked at Roses Department Store for 27 years, and until her illness, cared for children, worked as a laundress and candy maker at The Galilean Children's Home in Liberty. Michael D. Caudill, age 77 of Nancy, KY, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Danville Care and Rehabilitation. Michael was born on April 5, 1947 in Whitesburg, KY, the son of Elza Caudill and Lelah Tyree Caudill. Michael married Elizabeth Ann Wilson on November 6, 1970 and they shared almost fifty years of marriage prior to her death on May 5, 2020. He was a Christian and a member of Bradley's Pleasure Baptist Church. Michael worked as a supervisor for Super Service. He enjoyed studying his Bible, playing golf and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Kelly Denise Kandel of Russell Springs; one grandchild, Hannah Elizabeth Caudill; his sister, Matalene (Ron) Absher of Science Hill; extended family members, church family, coworkers, neighbors and friends who are saddened by his passing. Howard Lee Neeley, age 89, a lifelong resident of the Oak Hill Community, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Kenwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, KY. He was born in Somerset, KY on November 11, 1935, and was the son of the late Everett and Veva Roberts Neeley. Howard was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Bender Tire and Benders Service station for many years. He enjoyed car racing, watching NASCAR on TV, attending dirt track racing, and going to flea markets. Howard was a dedicated employee and was a hard worker. He is survived by one brother Jack Neeley (Nancy) of Richmond, KY, and nieces; Vickie Ramsey (Terry) of Somerset and Geri Alsip (Wayne) also of Somerset, KY and two nephews; Ed Lee Neeley(Tammy) and Randy Ray Neeley (Michelle) all of Richmond, KY.Howard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William Neeley and a niece, Sheila Neeley.A service celebrating the life of Howard Lee Neeley will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 1:00PM in the Chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company & Crematory with Rev. Joey Eugene "Highway" Hill, age 53, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at UK Medical Center in Lexington. Joey was born on December 19, 1970 in Somerset, the son of Eugene R. Hill and Barbara Ann Smith Hill. He worked for twenty years at Tecumseh and Armstrong Flooring. Joey enjoyed yard sales, gardening, riding motorcycles, rebuilding cars...... the only thing he didn't care much about was fishing!! His favorite times were those spent with family. He is survived by his loving wife, Michelle Hill of Somerset; two sons, Josh (Katie Wayne) Hill and Charles Hill (Elizabeth Dykes); one granddaughter, Josie Wayne Hill; three sisters, Lydia Katherine Hill, Bobbie Lynn Sexton, and Laura Beth Hill; extended family members, neighbors, and friends who are saddened by his passing. She was born in Somerset, Kentucky on Friday, August 26, 1955 the daughter of Osby "Spider" & Ruth Ellen (Goff) Smith. She was a Christian lady, member of Science Hill Methodist Church, worked at Roses Department Store for 27 years, and until her illness, cared for children, worked as a laundress and candy maker at The Galilean Children's Home in Liberty. Margie Buster Whitaker, 88, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away from this life on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation. Margie was the daughter of the late Claude F. Buster Sr. and Mabel Rabon Buster. She was born on August 8, 1936. Margie loved playing cards and board games. She also enjoyed reading various types of books. But her biggest joy in life was spending time with her six beautiful grandchildren. Margie was a longtime disciple of Christ at the Somerset First Chirstian Church, where she was a member of their wonderful choir. She always loved singing and that was apparent while she was an all-state vocalist in High School. She graduated from Somerset High School in 1955. She is survived by one son, Mark Allen Hutchens (Rachelle) of Somerset, KY. Six grandchildren. Madison Hutchens (Versailles, KY), Gianna Hutchens (Nicholasville, KY), Morgan, Phillip, Joseph, and Robert Hutchens (at home in Somerset, KY), and one niece Bobette Buster (Los Angeles, CA) and one nephew Eric Buster (Palm Harbor, FL) and several cousins. Other than her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Neece Whitaker, Jr. two brothers Claude F. Buster, Jr. and Robert Allen Buster. Margie was a retired clerical worker in the Insurance field while in Lexington, KY and Somerset Gas Service Department. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 16th, at the First Christian Church in Somerset, KY. Visitation from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service starting at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Buster Cemetery in Creelsboro, KY at a later date. Barbara Ann Francis, age 81, of Campbellsville, KY, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Grandview Nursing Home. Barbara was born on September 1, 1943 in Somerset, KY to the late Charlie H. Hall and Gertrude Kidd Hall. She retired as a Radiology clerk from Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Barbara loved the Cincinnati Reds, Elvis Presley movies, watching westerns and listening to all types of music genres. Most of all, Barbara loved spending time with her children and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Cathy (Dr. William) Johnson of Ft. Myers, FL; three sons, David (Betty) Ware of Loveland, OH, Tom (Beth) Francis of Lexington, KY and James Francis of Somerset, KY; one brother, Frankie Lee Hall of Jacksonville, N.C.; two sisters, Betty Jo Poindexter of OH and Katherine Mincey of Russell Springs, KY; seven grandchildren, Ashley Ware, Andrew Stringer, Callie Johnson, Joci Johnson, Braden Francis, Brandon Mounce and Leighton Francis; and several great grandchildren. Wanda Lucille Wagner age 83 cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother passed away at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington, KY on November 9, 2024. She was born in Pulaski County on January 26, 1941, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Allen and Luvirda Bullock Nolan. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Veroni Caroline Hubble.Wanda retired from Fayette County Schools Department of Transportation after 32 years of service. She was also a hairdresser and graduated from Southland Cosmetology and Beauty School.Wanda was a member of Meadowthorpe Baptist Church in Lexington, KY and loved her church family. She had several hobbies over the years and loved square dancing and was a member of the Wheeler Dealer Square Dance club for over 45 years. She enjoyed gardening, travel, all manners of crafts and sewing, and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a volunteer with Friendship International in Lexington, KY where among other classes she taught line dance for many years. Wanda was a member of the Citizen Police Academy in Lexington, KY.Wanda is survived by her husband Bobby L. Janice Reesor Smith, age 87, of Somerset, a devoted Christian, mother, teacher and cherished friend to many, passed away Sunday morning, November 10, 2024 after a lengthy illness.She shared the gift of music to thousands of students throughout a career that spanned nearly forty years at numerous schools in the Pulaski County and Somerset school systems including: Eubank, Dunbar, Fourth Ward, Parker, Memorial and Hopkins Elementary.She attended Knapp Hall and Berea Foundation School before graduating from Berea College. She completed post-graduate degrees at Peabody College and Eastern Kentucky University.After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling which took her around the world to Europe, Asia, and Africa.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Somerset and sang in the church choir. In addition, she conducted church services for women at the Pulaski County Detention Center for many years. She shared the love and message of Jesus Christ with many during their time of incarceration.Jan was born in Paducah, Kentucky on July 4, 1937 and was proud to celebrate her patriotism all 365 days of each year. She was the daughter of Charles and Laura Reesor. She is survived by a brother, Thomas Reesor (and Linda) of Knoxville, Tennessee.She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth A. Smith, Sr., whom she married on July 14, 1963 at Phelps Stokes Chapel in Berea, Kentucky.Three sons were blessed to have Jan as their mother: Renny Smith, Shannon Smith (and Amy), and Starling Smith - all of the Somerset area. He was a retired trooper with Kentucky State Police Post # 11 in London. Tommy was an avid outdoorsman, and loved both hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working on hot rod and classic cars, as well as taking his jeep to the creek. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his kids, and he loved visiting with his KSP brothers and sharing what they called their "War Stories". In addition to his wife, Tanya, he is survived by: one son, Austin Ritter (Ciara); two daughters, Tessa Berry (Jonathan) and Jessica Lear (Ben); and two granddaughters, Ariya and Eleanor. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home with Chaplain James Hodge officiating. Charles J. "Toby" Howson, 95, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Alois Alzheimer Center in Cincinnati, Ohio surrounded by his family. He was born April 22, 1929 in Eubank, Pulaski County, Kentucky to Clyde Wesley and Matoka (Cornett) Howson. As a young man, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he became reacquainted with Olline Blevins from Briary. They were married and had two children, a son and daughter. He was employed by Rayburn Construction Company until his retirement. He and Olline retired to Lake Cumberland where they built a beautiful home on the lake. They enjoyed the lake life while he pursued his passion for Beekeeping. The honey he harvest over the years is still being enjoyed today and will be for many more. In his later years, after the passing of his wife, he returned to Cincinnati to live with his son and to be close to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olline (Blevins) Howson, who passed August 5, 2010; his parents, Clyde Wesley Howson and Matoka (Cornett) Howson; three brothers, Walter L. "John" Howson, Andrew "Bud" Howson, Laurel Clinton "Tink" Howson; seven sisters, Geneva Ashley, Jewel Reynolds, Ruth Smith, Eveleen Benevengo, Anna Mae Howson, Josephine Howson, and Mildred Akins; and a granddaughter, Lori Elizabeth Howson. He is survived by his son, Charles "Randy" Howson of Cincinnati, Ohio; his daughter, Judy A. Howson of Highland Heights, Kentucky; his grandson, James Howson and his wife Amy; and his two great-grandchildren, Barrett Howson and Bailey Howson. John David Dunham, age 94, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024. Mr. Dunham was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 21, 1930, to Deo Roscoe and Mary Magdalene Poly Dunham. Preceding him in death was his beautiful wife, Barbara Fahl Dunham, whom he married on July 16, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio. Also preceding him in death were six brothers, Deo, Dick, Dale, Don, Dudley, Bill and two sisters, Mona Marie Dunham Lockhart and Madge Dunham Borsch. Mr. Dunham is survived by sons; John (Jessica) Dunham of Sanford, NC and Paul (Rhonda) Dunham of Somerset, KY, and daughters; Leslie Combs (Jeff) of Liberty Township, OH and Linda Kirpatrick (Kris) of Somerset, KY. Mr. Dunham served five years in the U.S. Navy, having been called back into service during the Korean War. He retired from General Electric in 1992 after thirty-five years of service. Betty was united in marriage to the late Jack Norton on September 18, 1960, at the Langdon Street Baptist Church. To this union a daughter was born Jacinda Norton of Somerset. Also surviving Betty is a granddaughter, Chelsey Selheimer of Memphis, TN; a half-sister, Joe Ann Bray; 13 nieces and nephews; special niece, Connie Riner (Mark), Bennie Saunders, Betty Poe, John Gates, Randy Pedigo, Sally McCloud, Jamie Behler, Gary Barnett, Pam Torres, Libby Putman, Greg Norton, Michele Pirkle and Ryan Norton. Betty is preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Holsomback Gates and a nephew, Ronald Charles Gates. Betty was a lifelong member of Langdon Street Baptist Church. She served as Church Treasurer and was active in the Willing Workers. She was a 1951 graduate of Somerset High School and Somerset Community College. He married Melinda Keith on May 2, 1987 and they have shared thirty seven years of marriage. Steve loved the Lord and was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of Woodstock Masonic Lodge no. 639, and also a member of Somerset York Rite Bodies. Steve has been a banker for a number of years and he worked as Vice President / Loan Officer at United Cumberland Bank.Steve was a man dedicated to his family. He loved spending time with his family, and he enjoyed making others laugh.... especially his wife, Melinda! His newest role in life was being "Mr." to his grandson Carter. Jennie was a member of the First Baptist Church at the Singing Bridge.As a young woman Jennie worked in the Laundry Room at Kings Daughters Hospital, worked in the Green House at Frankfort Habilitation Center, and at Kentucky State University in their Cafeteria and in the Rosenwald School. In later years she did volunteer work with the Humane Society Animal Shelter. She got the most pleasure out of life spending time with her cats.Jennie is survived by her sister, Terrie Weddle Curd of Frankfort, formerly of Sand Gap, Ky; half-sister, Jan (James) Rose Coffey of Somerset, Ky; and half-brother, Ed (Brenda) Weddle of Georgetown, Ky. She is preceded in death by her father, Edward Vetress Weddle; mother, Juanita McDaniel; and stepfather, Boyd G. McDaniel.Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Wingate, Eddie Wagoner, James Harry Wilson, Jack Ruffner, Rodney Coffey, and James Coffey. With profound sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Patton Green, husband, father, grandfather and friend to many in his community. He passed away surrounded by his family on October 18th in Somerset, KY. He was in his 70th year.Born in Somerset to Samuel Patton and Nota Price Green, Pat made an impact on many that knew him.He graduated from Somerset High School and the University of Kentucky before continuing to the eastern Kentucky coalfields beginning a long and successful career with the U.S. Dept of Agriculture ultimately bringing him home to Somerset in 1983. Pat was a dedicated leader for the USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service until his retirement in 2011.Pat was heavily invested in the mission of the Boy Scouts of America. Having attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1971, he spent decades supporting and advancing Chester Kaiser Troop 79 as Assistant Scoutmaster, Advisor and Board Member. Having grown up across the street from Mr. Kaiser himself, Pat learned firsthand the tenets of scouting that distinguish a man and he lived them out daily. He was equally passionate about history and the preservation of battlefields and spent many years enabling and sustaining the restoration efforts of Mill Springs Battlefield in Nancy, KY. Pat was an avid traveler and spent time in 49 states and 18 different countries across Europe and the Americas.Pat is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Delane Harney Green, formerly of Cynthiana, KY. His two children; Nadia Lane Green of Somerset, KY and Amos Patton Green (Kala) of Danville, KY. He is also survived by one sister: Sammie Luann Green of Bartow, FL. A granddaughter; Adelaide Green, four nephews; Samuel Logan Green (Lesley), John Hannon Rakestraw, Isaiah Harney (Ann) and Joshua Harney; two nieces, Rebekah Judy Dodge (Robert) and Jordan Judy Craft (Daniel); great niece, Olivia Rakestraw; and great nephews, Henry, William and George Green. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sarah "Linda" Morgan.Anyone that knew Pat could attest that he loved fiercely. He instilled in his family and those close to him a reverence for history, a curiosity for travel, a passion for animals and an empathy for those in need with a particular generosity for those that couldn't or wouldn't ask openly for what they needed.The Green Family will receive visitors at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday October 24, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday October 25, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Sheila worked as a caregiver for FHP for many years, where she showed great compassion and care for the individuals that were in her charge. She was a graduate of Somerset Community College and held an Associate's Degree for Clinical Lab Technicians. She was known as "The Fun One" and loved to explore and try new things, see new places and taste new foods. Sheila was an artist and enjoyed art, rocks and nature as well as animals. On family holidays, She went all out, it was important to her that everyone had fun and she made sure of it! Sheila was her own person and she lived to make a difference in the lives of her family and all of the other peoples lives she touched. Jeanette married Starlin Edward Casada at the bride's home in the Quinton Community on June 11, 1960. There was one daughter born from their union. Jeanette was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Kidder, KY and she loved her church family dearly. She taught various Sunday School Classes and loved to sing with a quartet. Billie was born July 26,1933 in Norton, VA, the daughter of Eura Williams Murphy and Otis R. Murphy.On December 29, 1953, in Big Stone Gap, VA, she married high school sweetheart Robert Fred Statzer, and they shared over 70 years together before his passing late last year. He is now walking in his eternal reward with his beloved wife of 69 years, Joy R. Lawson, who passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2024, at The Neighborhood of Somerset. They are now rejoicing in each other's presence.BJ was born on August 30, 1934, in Fayette County to the late Harry and Willie Sharp Lawson. Joy was born June 6, 1935, in Madison County to the late Walter and Lillie McDonald Rhodus. They are survived by their daughter Jodi (Larry) Sybesma, grandchildren Alyson, Aaron (Jessica) Sybesma and two great grandchildren, twins, Jack and Josie.Bobby served his country for 30 years as a Command Sargeant Major in the Army. After retirement he taught JROTC and was Energy Manager for Pulaski Schools, with Joy by his side as a true partner in all his endeavors. Joy was active in welcoming new residents to the community through Newcomers and many offices in Redeemer Lutheran Church. She is remembered for her outgoing and lively personality.A Celebration of Life will take place Monday, October 21, 2024, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3950 US- 27 North, Somerset, Kentucky, 42503. With his playing days long over, Tim had taken to coaching from the comfort of his recliner. Despite our best efforts, he was a dedicated University of Louisville fan.Tim was passionate about his career as a public servant, working for the USDA grading tobacco for several decades before retirement. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Lois worked as an educator and formally retired from the Pulaski County School System in 1997 after 37 years of service, but continued to fill in as Principal at various schools in that system. She was a member of the 1957 graduating class of Somerset High School. Kathleen was a former member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and more currently a member of First Baptist Church. Throughout her life, Kathleen always had a desire to help those in need. She prided herself while working with special needs children at Oak Hill Elementary. She often visited the ill and shut-in and her love for people and involvement in the community earned her the title of social butterfly. She was employed at J.J. Newberry, Roses Department Store and J.C. Penney and was a seamstress at Palm Beach Company. Kathleen was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the walking club at Rocky Hollow. Vergis Nelson "Barefoot" Harper, 83, departed this life on Monday, October 14, 2024 at his home in Somerset, Kentucky. Vergis was born on November 17, 1940 in Pulaski County, Kentucky to the late John Nelson and Doritha Bea (Phelps) Harper.Vergis was a faithful member of Nelson Valley Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Van Driver, Song Leader and Deacon for 57 years. His unwavering attendance was recognized with an award for thirty- six years of perfect attendance. He sang on the radio with his two sisters as The Harper Trio. Vergis was employed by the W. D. Gover Furniture Company which was located where the Commonwealth Journal is today, the Direct Oil Filling Station, contractor Charles Reed and The House of Carpet , where he liked four months laying carpet for 48 years. He also was a servant to his community by serving as a volunteer fire fighter with the Science Hill Fire Department for 10 years. Vergis was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He also played basketball and softball, all while barefooted, for more than forty years.He is survived by; his children, Daniel Ray Harper, Karen Ann Harper and Norman (Renee) Harper , his four grandchildren; Jacob Allen (Brittany) Harper, Kaitlyn (Dylan) Stapleton, Kimberly (Andre) Pretorius and Jonathan McClendon, Seven great grandchildren; Leandra, Ian and Hunter Harper, Kenzly Heuberger, Charlie Stapleton and soon to be Remington Kate Stapleton and Grayson Pretorius, as well as several nieces and nephews and His special niece and caretaker, Brenda Sue Dye Coner, and great friend, Patty Anderson from the House of Carpet.He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Wanda Harper, his parents, six siblings; Ophia Brower, Ora McHaffey, Allene Dye, James Orville Harper, Jewell Mercer and Anna Warren.The family will receive friends at Nelson Valley Baptist Church, Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 4:00 PM.A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Nelson Valley Baptist Church at 11:00 AM.The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Sweeny's Chapel Cemetery Fund, 183 Whitaker Rd. , Somerset, Kentucky 42503. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelors in Engineering, and worked as an Engineer at TTAI. Dustin lived life to the fullest, always in search of adventure and adrenaline. He loved photography, drag racing, exploring, snowboarding, and stargazing. He was a man of many skills; including making music as Synkopy, writing songs, mastering Rubik's cubes, and building guitars and guns. Donald Carl Hicks, 89, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed from this life on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.He is survived by his wife of 50 ½ years, JoAnne Buell Hicks; one son, Richard Wayne Hicks (Donna) of Somerset, Kentucky; three daughters, Brittany Nicole Hicks of Somerset, Kentucky, Angela Lynn Bray of Somerset, Kentucky and Lori Anne Hicks Wallace (Bill) of London, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Jessica Marie Hicks, Michael Gabriel Hicks, McKinley J. Hicks, Justin Ray Bray (Kelsey Marie), Joshua Christian Bray (Garianna Mareanett) all of Somerset, Kentucky, Romana Amanda Newbold (Tyler) of Seattle, Washington and Jared Alexander Newbold of Worthington, Ohio; eight great grandchildren, Alianna, Reagan, Dallas, Brooklyn, Sawyer, Taya, Mallory and Lillian and a host of family and friends.Preceding him in death; father, J. Henry Hicks; mother, Charlottie Metcalf Hicks; son, Timothy John Hicks; son-in-law, Clinton Ray Bray; two brothers, George and Bert; four sisters, Edna, Arleta, Ada, Emma and a host of family and friends.Don was born on October 24, 1934, in Tippecanoe City, Ohio, the son of J. Henry and Charlottie Metcalf Hicks. He proudly served four years from 1959 to 1963 in the United States Army with a portion of that time in Korea. He retired after 30 years from Ohio/South-Central Bell Telephone Company as an engineer. He then worked for 24 years at Advance Auto Parts where he met and made many special friends. Don was a devout member of the Community Harvest Church of God for over 43 years where he served in various roles including clerk, finance department, trustee, and Pastor's Council. He loved spending time with all of his family, church family and a host of friends. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a proud veteran. Don enjoyed watching sports on TV: UK football and basketball, Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and Ohio State. He was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle fan; in his younger years, he owned and so enjoyed riding his Harley. Don was extremely articulate in his use of language and very meticulous with any kind of math, numbers, bookwork and very knowledgeable in all kinds of areas. He was exceptional in completing crossword puzzles using his own knowledge base and enjoyed playing solitaire on the computer.Visitation will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and again, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Community Harvest Church of God, 200 Empire Drive, Somerset, Kentucky.A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Donald Carl Hicks on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Harvest Church of God with Rev. Larry B. Perkins and Rev. Patricia "Patsy" Ann Lovelace, 93, of Somerset, Kentucky departed this life on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at her home.She was born on August 2, 1931 at the Columbus Coal Camp in Christopher, Kentucky. She was the 8th of 12 children born to John and Ina (Phillips) Cornett. Patsy was a dedicated military wife during her husband's 20 year career in the Air Force. She loved crafting and hand-stitched a beautiful collection quilts. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening, and cooking for her family. In 2008 she was honored to be named a Kentucky Colonel.She is survived by her two sisters, Wilma Jean Burt and Regina Ruth Brock; her daughter, Sharon (and Mike) Brewer; her grandchildren, Autumn Whitaker (and Ethan) Griffiths, Chase (and Zoie) Whitaker, and Chancellor Whitaker; and her great-grandson, Eli Griffiths.She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Lovelace, Jr.; her son, Honorable Larry Whitaker; nine siblings, Aileen Spencer, Joan Chamberlain, Staff Sgt.
